A portion of the gala proceeds will also benefit the JDRF.
JDRF was founded in 1970 by a group of parents of diabetic children who were convinced that, through research diabetes could be cured. During these years, JDRF has grown substantially and is now a voluntary health agency with tens of thousands of members, chapters from coast to coast, and affiliates in ten countries around the world. JDRF gives more money directly to diabetes research than any other non-governmental health agency in the world. This year, JDRF awarded $130 million to diabetes research, bringing its cumulative dollar commitment to over $920 million. Locally, our office which is located in Glens Falls, NY and covers the area from Saratoga to Plattsburgh distributes a Bag of Hope to newly diagnosed children, holds research and education seminars, offers support to families through their Community Outreach program and is funding diabetes research. The local office was started in 1997 by volunteers who organized a walk to cure diabetes and has grown leaps and bounds and now the local chapter holds 2 big fundraisers and locally raises about $250,000 yearly for type 1 diabetes research.
