The Glens Falls region has been awarded the Basketball Tournament of Champions for 2006 and 2007. The games will be held at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The decision was made in a unanimous 4-0 vote on Tuesday, December 7, after the bid committee members’ presentation in Central Valley, New York, to the Federation Planning Board and the Federation Basketball Board. A committee in Binghamton, New York has been vying to have the tournament awarded to their area and submitted their bid as well.
Doug Kenyon, Tournament Co-Director and member of the bid committee commented, “We are all extremely happy to secure this bid, as it ensures we will host the tournament for three more years and keep the tradition of Federation Basketball alive and well in Glens Falls. We’re committed to increasing the quality of this tournament and creating a strong identity for the Tournament of Champions.”
The Glens Falls Bid Committee is comprised of the following members: Suzanna Bernd, Jim Brown, Dan Hall, Roger Hogan, Doug Kenyon, and Eileen Troy.
The Glens Falls Civic Center is an arena hosting sports and entertainment activities year-round for over twenty-five years. Home to the United Hockey League's Adirondack Frostbite and the Adirondack Wildcats of the United States Basketball League, it hosts a variety of sports, theater, and family entertainment events.
